Ukrainian Pysanka Artists Set National Record for Largest Pysanka Painting Event

On April 30, an extraordinary event took place in Kyiv, Ukraine, marking a new national record. Representatives from the World Record Book confirmed this achievement: the largest collective painting of pysanky (Ukrainian Easter eggs) by artists from various regions of Ukraine.

This record-breaking event was initiated by Ukraine’s Ministry of Culture and Information Policy, in collaboration with the “Institute of Culture of Ukraine” NGO, the National Union of Folk Art Masters of Ukraine, and UNIT.CITY.

The event was opened by acting Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, Rostyslav Karandeev, one of the main initiators, along with Marina Sobotyuk, co-founder of the “Institute of Culture of Ukraine.” They addressed the participants with words of encouragement. Notably, this record was set during the Ukrainian Pysanka Festival.

“This year, we have applied to add the pysanka to UNESCO’s World Intangible Cultural Heritage List,” shared Mr. Rostyslav.

Hanna Krysiuk, CEO of the World Record Book, recorded the achievement and announced the official results: five hours, 530 participants, and 800 pysanky painted. This is a new national record for Ukraine!

Ms. Krysiuk congratulated the record holders, expressing gratitude to all participants for preserving Ukraine’s heritage, honoring national traditions, and uniting for a common purpose.

In addition to the record-setting event, well-known Ukrainian chef Yevhen Klopotenko conducted a master class on assembling a traditional Easter basket.

A heartfelt thanks to all the participants and record holders for their initiative. Now more than ever, it is vital for the world to hear about Ukraine’s unique contributions—not only its resilience on the frontlines but also its cultural heritage.
