On August 21, 2025, in Khmelnytskyi, a unique event took place – a new record was officially certified by the Book of World Records of Ukraine in the “First” category.
The most successful graduates of general secondary education institutions in Khmelnytskyi created a map of Ukraine measuring 3 × 5.9 meters from draped scarves adorned with authentic folk paintings. 150 participants contributed to setting this record.
The highlight of this achievement was the unique combination of painting techniques from across Ukraine, many of which are recognized as UNESCO intangible heritage.
The record was certified by Alina Skomorokhova, the official representative of the Book of World Records in Khmelnytskyi region. She presented diplomas to the record holders and emphasized the symbolic and important meaning of this achievement for all of Ukraine, especially during the full-scale war, when unity and national strength carry particular significance.
For her outstanding contribution to the event, Violeta Labaziuk, Chair of the Khmelnytskyi Regional Council, was awarded a diploma by the Book of World Records of Ukraine. The idea of this record belonged to her and was actively supported by Maya Onyshchuk, honored artist of Ukraine, Director of the Khmelnytskyi Regional Scientific-Methodical Center for Culture and Arts, and a member of the Khmelnytskyi City Council.
A special contribution came from Anastasia Ponomaryova, chief artist of the center, folk painting master, and designer, who moved to Khmelnytskyi from Kharkiv during the war. She now focuses on studying ancient traditional painting techniques from both Podillia and all over Ukraine.
An important moment of the event was the laying of a time capsule containing the graduates’ wishes and dreams, which is planned to be ceremoniously opened after Ukraine’s victory.
The event was supported by the Deputy Heads of the Khmelnytskyi Regional Council, Volodymyr Honcharuk and Valentyn Sokoliuk, who congratulated the students on their creative achievement and wished them further success.
This new record became a vivid demonstration of the talent, unity, and resilience of Khmelnytskyi’s young generation. It symbolizes faith that all the dreams and wishes placed in the capsule will surely come true in a free and independent Ukraine. Today, amid the full-scale invasion, children have shown the world their strength, courage, and sincere desire to learn and transform the country for its future.
